Customers say

Customers report this food delivers significant health improvements for cats with hyperthyroidism, including normalized thyroid levels, restored energy, and renewed vitality, with many describing it as life-saving compared to medication or surgery. However, many cats reject the wet food due to its dry, dense pâté-like texture, consuming only small portions before refusing leftovers and causing substantial waste. Reviewers strongly request smaller, single-serving cans and additional flavor varieties like fish to improve palatability and reduce waste. Despite these texture and packaging drawbacks, most customers consider the health benefits worthwhile for managing chronic illness.

It is Easy to Treat Feline Hyperthyroidism with Y/D

Dr. Blackwell

My 16.5 year old cat Adonis became hyperthyroid. He was losing weight and his T4 was elevated at 5.8 with the normal range between 0.8 and 4.7. I started him on Y/D exclusively and within a few weeks his T4 was within the normal range at 2.4. It is still early in his treatment but his haircoat does not appear to be as scruffy and his activity has increased. He had been on I/D dry and the switch to Y/D dry was uneventful. He likes the Y/D dry.

Need more choices

My cat started on the wet thyroid food about a week ago and does not like it at all. He doesn't like to consistency as it is a thick pate without gravy. I wish Hills would make a few different choices for the thyroid care Wet food and also some treats. This is a very boring diet for a cat to get used to. He'll eat the dry but he prefers to have wet food . He is losing weight as his appetite is decreased because he doesn't like the food.

Y/D works!

I did not have many choices to make for my elderly cat. He had a terrible reaction to thyroid medication and surgery wasn't an option. We started the diet Y/D and he looks like a whole new cat. He loves the canned and nibbles on the dry. I highly recommend this diet!

My thyroid kitty loves this with her dry! I’m so thankful she was able to eat this food since her body wanted to reject her methimazole. After a stressful move, adding the wet food has helped and she loves it!

Fantastic Hyperthyroid Option

This diet is nothing short of amazing! I have been in the Veterinary field for 25+ years and our first thought to treat hyperthyroidism has always been Methimazole. I have an Acromegaly cat who is now hyperthyroid and he was initially started on Methimazole. Within 3 weeks of starting Methimazole he developed acute liver toxicity. The medication was discontinued and we opted to transition to Y/D. I was praying for a miracle and hoping his diabetes would not be horribly thrown off. Fast forward to 4 weeks after the full transition to Y/D, and his liver values are now normal again, his thyroid values are in the high normal range and my cat loves the diet. I couldn't be happier! Thank you!

Cans too Big, Cats Don’t Eat Leftovers

Rini

The cans are WAY too big for a cat. Most cats will NOT eat refrigerated food so making giant cans that a cat can’t eat all of in one sitting is ridiculous. Especially considering the extreme cost of a product that a cat is required to have in order to live. The amount of waste we get on these after paying an arm and a leg is honestly disrespectful to your customers. Maybe a 20lbs cat can get through these in one go, but a 6lbs kitty quite literally can’t. Make smaller cans in quantities of 48 rather than 24.

Questions

1 - 2 of 2 Questions

When is Hills going to make 3 OUNCE cans of prescription food? How many cats out of a household of them or like our one cat can eat a 5.5 oz can? It goes bad, begins to smell terrible after the second day open -the cat won’t eat it. Throw out $$$$$$$

  1. Thanks for the shout out but I do exactly that with the plastic wrap and the light reheating….it’s just frustrating, the cost does not make this any less frustrating- I would consider Royal Canin if they had a similar product. Sadly giving her the meds in the dose she needs makes her a 24 hour zombie, at least she is fairly normal with half dose and this food.. if she would eat it.

Some of the comments i've read are older. So, as of June 2020 has Hill's come up with any new textures, gravies, flavors for their wet y/d cat food??? and if not, WHY? Ellie @12yr. would like beef! or pork! and quality due to price! $$$ yikes!

  1. My kitty passed last December due to kidney issues. My vet determined that the thyroid was working harder because of his kidneys. But while he was on the thyroid y/d his thyroid issue was under control. It was a bummer there is only one flavor and $$ Garfield wouldn’t have taken the alternative medicine very well or at all and it was almost as $$ the vet that prescribed the y/d said if he was on medication he could eat whatever he wanted but on y/d only y/d I think in hind site if you can but the medicated ointment in his ears he would have been happier to eat whatever he wanted. It was so pitiful to see Garfield beg for our food. Makes me sad.
