Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this prescription diet for effectively preventing and managing recurrent bladder stones, with most reporting zero new stone formation after months or years. Reviewers highlight visible health improvements including shinier coats, stable weight, and increased activity levels. Many note their dogs willingly eat the food despite its mild flavor profile, and several describe it as life-changing after previous surgeries. A few mention concerns about weight gain or protein sources, but these are vastly outweighed by the medical benefits and overall satisfaction most customers report.

I don’t drift far from this dog food because my dogs like it and it keeps their stool firm and small. I live in a building where I have to pick up their poop each time and this food makes it palatable. No more runny stools or huge poops where I need multiple bags!

My dog has Addisons Disease and a very sensitive tummy! He loves Hills i/d and it’s all we use now for his daily meals. Sometimes we mix the wet food with dry for a real treat and he loves them both!

I bought the multi organ food for my 12 year old puppy that has previously surgery of bladder stones (oxylated stones) he was eating the C/D food for long time and then you guy’s recommended to switch to multi organ after couple months he started to develop again oxylated crystals, I switched right away to the U/D and started to work right the way.

Best dry option for CaOx stones

I started this diet after my Male Bichon had CaOx stones a second time while on the Royal canin urinary and had his second cystotomy. After comparing u/d and c/d I chose this one. I feed the recomended amount split to twice a day and add water to the food. After a couple months on the diet my dogs urine specific gravity was not very concentrated (in his case it was isosthenuric) all the time which resulted in a lot of concern from my vet, but after contacting Hills Veterinary team for advice, who are wonderful, they clarified that this is known to happen with this diet because of it's formulation. Calcium oxalate is best treated by increasing water intake (also keeping oxalates low), which this diet does for my dog! I spoke with a nutrition specialist as well who recommended additions to this diet for my dog because he doesn't require such a low protein diet. In his opinion for my dog the wet food had a better composition (more protein) plus includes more water in the food itself. After 1.5 yr on this diet he continues to have new stones but the number and size is improved from his past reccurence. This diet has overall improved his condition! Unfortunately there is no cure for CaOx stones but this is the best managment diet I have tried yet. If you have an issue with CaOx stones I recommend discussing this diet with your veterinarian, and reaching out to the Hills vet team for free expertise! The Minnesota urolith center is also a great resource. If you are able to contact an independent certified veterinary nutritionist they are also a great source.

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY DOG AND HE DOESN'T LIKE THE TASTE OF IT. ADD MORE FLAVORS TO YOUR PRODUCTS LIKE BEEF OR LAMB.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

This food is offered in a 27.5 lb bag, but how can I order it? It is never in stock. Getting notified when available is - unfortunately - not enough. I have an 80+ lbs dog ... I don't want to buy the small bags for more money...

  1. Chewy carries them as well.

Does anyone mix the canned and dry?

  1. No I do not however I mix dry with some raw ground meat

What is the difference between the U/d and c/d versions of the food?

  1. I’m not sure about the c/d, but the u/d diet is low in purines. Often used for Dalmatians or dogs who might have urinary crystals due to medication. These both require a vet prescription, so defer to your vet for the best fit for your dog.

do the make a 17 lb bag

  1. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately this formula is only offered in a 8.5 and 27.5 lb bag. We hope this helps! Hill's Pet Nutrition
