Questions
My Male Cat Rockey. He is 13 years old, weights 17pounds. He is on Hills Prescription Weight Management. Both wet and dry. He gets 1/4can in the Am / Pm. And 3/4 of a cup of dry throught the day along with some Temptations Treats . What to Expect?
- The amount you feed your cat should be determined by your veterinarian. My cat was 13.5 lbs and overweight because she is a small/short cat. The vet tech calculated that I should feed 1/4 can (small 3 oz can) AM and PM, equaling 1/2 can per day and 1/3 cup of dry metabolic per day. She lost 1 pound a year, which the vet is happy with - slow weight loss is good. Over 3 years she has lost 3 lbs and is a good weight (could lose a little more) but was maintaining until Hill's stopped making the food (Covid pandemic - guess they can't get the imported ingredients). Since your cat is 17 pounds perhaps Vet will start him with a little more food than my cat and go to less when he loses some weight. 3/4 cup dry sounds like alot to me. I would NOT give the cat Temptations treats!! My vet specifically said do not give the cat any other food while on Hill's Metabolic or it will not work! The cat can have catnip (the real thing - the plant either fresh or dried, not catnip treats). For a treat, I give my cat some of the measured dry food (part of the 1/3 cup). I divide the 1/3 cup by 3 and feed her dry 3 times a day and wet/canned twice a day. Good luck!
