Customers say

Customers credit this prescription kidney diet with extending their dogs' lives, improving lab values, and restoring appetite and energy, with many calling it a lifesaver for pets with renal conditions. While most dogs eagerly consume it, some refuse to eat it, and reviewers report texture inconsistency—ranging from solid clumps to soupy consistency. Customers acknowledge the high price as necessary for health benefits but wish for smaller cans and easier-open lids. Despite individual palatability challenges and cost concerns, most consider it worthwhile for managing serious kidney disease.

My pup wasn’t particularly fond of this brand, and was taking it after being diagnosed with diabetes. The ingredients are low fat and healthy, so I was happy about that, however, I don’t think she thought it was too tasty.

Very good product, your dogs will thank you. Each bite contains the right amount of protein and nutrients that your little one needs. Don’t hesitate and make the switch to Hills, you won’t regret it.

My 17 year old chihuahua was going into kidney failure with a BUN of 62. The vet ended up taking her her off of all of her meds except Entyce and her gabapentin. He didn’t give her a good prognosis. We decided to change her diet to Hills science diet K/D. She has no teeth so I tried the different flavors since she is picky. She likes the chicken stew so I only fed her that but she refuses it sometimes so I just wait until she is very hungry and she will eat it. Within a month her levels are at 37 which is still high but much closer to normal and she has had no s/sx of ckd. This was 6 months ago and she is doing good for her age.

As far as bland kidney diets go, this one seems pretty palatable. My dog will usually eat it and I know it’s good for his kidney disease.

I bought this together with canned and unfortunately my dog will not eat it, even though it’s what he needs. Just wish there was a way to get him more interested on it.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

What is the as fed phosphorus %? What is the as fed protein %? What is the as fed fat %?

will I need a biome to go with the prescription Diet Kidney Care K/D chicken and vegetable stew or will she be OK with it straight from the can?

    1. My dog eats it straight from the can no problem.

So I have a female dog who is just now 2 and was born with bad kidneys I'm told by the vet. She will not eat this k/d kidney dog food at all. Why don't you make available the original kidney dog food??? I'm going crazy trying to help my dog why won't You?

    1. Thank you for your question. The last formula change that took place was in July 2017. Once the previous formula is out of stock, it will not be replenished.
