Description

When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before, like filtering and reabsorbing nutrients. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Prescription Diet k/d is also formulated with Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T) to stimulate appetite and increase food intake. Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this kidney diet for its palatability and health benefits, with most reporting their cats eat enthusiastically and show renewed energy and improved vitality. Many credit veterinary recommendations and describe visible improvements in senior and finicky cats, with long-term users noting extended lifespans. However, some express concern about recent formula changes, reporting increased phosphorus levels that contradict kidney health claims. A few customers note their cats refuse the food entirely, and several mention cost as a barrier. Despite these concerns, most customers consider it highly effective for managing kidney disease.

My cat was diagnosed with early kidney disease and we started her on this wet food diet and she’s acting like a kitten again

Expensive, but worth it! Had to put my older cat on this and even though he can be a picky eater, he likes this food. The difference in energy for him is so obvious after starting it, too. It's clear it makes him feel better.

My puppy was on this when I first got her, so I kept her on it. And she's been on it. She just turned a year old in June. And I will be taking her off of it and putting her on adult. So I would recommend this to anyone.

My senior 15+ kitty started Hills K/D dry cat food and their wet K/D cat food. When he’s having a harder day he’ll still eat the dry food without hesitation. His mood has improved and his energy has increased too. The fish version is also a good choice too.

Dry kibble chicken flavor ok, new flavor wet food chicken and vegetable stew he likes much better.

My cat ate it ok the first few days but will now only eat a few kibbles. He doesn’t seem to like the flavor very much. Finally had to switch him over to wet food and is eating better. Really likes the new flavor chicken and vegetable stew. Too bad Hill’s doesn’t make a lid to fit the 2.9oz can so will make do with a piece of tin foil.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. We could not tell by your post if you had done a gradual transition or not. We generally suggest doing a 7-day transition, as this allows them time to get used to the new flavor and ingredients. This can also help ward off against any sort of tummy trouble. Please know, all of our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you would like to take advantage of this guarantee, please return the unused portion of the product to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

Hit or miss...

It's hit or miss with my kitty. I would think the recipe would be the same for all batches made but sometimes he just won't eat it. Other times it's like it's the best stuff he's ever eaten.

I have two 16 year old cats with early renal disease. I was feeding the early renal food but it was discontinued. My cats have really long led this food. They are eating it great and my oldest cat blood has improved. So far so good!

Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

Do I need a vet's prescription to purchase hill KD food?

  1. Yes, typically you can add your vet’s contact information and the pet food site will contact them to request the prescription. Your vet must have previously prescribed the food during a vet visit.

Did the K/D diet dry food kibble size change? My new bag of K/D has significantly smaller kibbles than what is printed on the outside of the bag, as well as what we have received in all previous bags of food.

do you make a cat food with gravy

    1. They do have a wet food version of K/D. The stew ones are in a sauce.

What does the K/D stand for in the name of the food? I see others have KM is there a difference in the formula?

    1. KM may be k/d + mobility?

Can you feed this to cats without kidney problems

    1. Thank you for your question. This food is formulated for a specific medical concern. We would suggest speaking to your veterinarian for a diet recommendation. Hill’s Pet Nutrition
