Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this food for resolving digestive issues like chronic diarrhea and vomiting, with many reporting it's the only option their dogs can tolerate. Reviewers highlight strong palatability, noting even picky eaters eagerly consume it and that the chicken stew flavor tastes like quality human food. However, a substantial group expresses deep frustration over a recent formula change that made the product watery and soupy, lacking visible chicken pieces and appearing darker. Many report their dogs now refuse it or developed new digestive problems. Despite this significant drawback, most customers still value the product's medical benefits.

Sensitive tummies

Great for dogs who have sensitive tummies. Our vet has always recommended this when our dog has gotten into something and it works like a charm. Bonus points that it passes our dogs taste test.

My dog had to have extensive GI surgery. So glad this food is available and she loves it!! So she doesn't realize she is on a restrictive diet.

A Tasty, gentle option for my Yorkie’s sensitive stomach & low fat dietary needs

JessicaC

My Yorkie has a history of pancreatitis and needs to stay on a low fat diet, so finding food that agrees with her stomach is extremely important. Hills I/d has been gentle on her digestion, and she genuinely enjoys the chicken and vegetable stew texture. It gives me peace of mind knowing she can have food she likes while still meeting her dietary needs. It is pricey but for us, keeping her tummy settled makes it worth it.

At the direction of my veterinarian, we started our 15 year old male English Setter on this food due to his serious digestive problem. He is munching away happily and is doing very well.

So my first impression of the can is that love that it has the pop top. I used it for my Chihuahua. Actually, both of my Chihuahuas. One was diagnosed for pancreatic, um. Her pancreatitis, so she had to go on the. I did, I love that. It does have the pop tops, so if we are traveling, it, we don't have to take a can opener, uh. I would definitely recommend this stew. Over the regular because we did get a couple of cans of the regular. It's not as easy to break. Up, um, we have smaller dogs, so it's easier for our smaller dogs to eat this bread.

Perfect for Picky Pups

My little guys and I love these stew pouches. They are the perfect size for a meal. The food stays fresh and I don’t have to store any leftovers in the fridge. The stew looks and smells really fresh. It looks like people food, but it’s nutritional sound and made for dogs. My little guys can be super picky eaters. They usually turn their noses up to canned food, but they clean their bowls when I serve them this stew. It doesn’t upset their sensitive stomachs either.

Questions

1 - 9 of 9 Questions

are the last 4 digits of the ID number for this food 3389?

  1. No

Is this considered part of a "bland diet"?

  1. Yes, I would consider this food to be part of a bland diet, my dog has been eating this food for over a year and tolerates it very well. As you might already know you will need Vet prescription for this rather expensive food.

Does the 5.5 oz can come with the 'Active Biome' formula right now? Can you confirm what is the formula now and going forward?

Is this particular food still being produced? I am unable to find it anywhere, and neither is my veterinarian. Thank you!

    1. I don’t believe it has been discontinued but it is temporarily unavailable.  You might try the turkey version.

I see the minimum fat content listed but not the maximum fat content. What is it?

    1. Thank you for your question. Our Prescription Diet i/d Canine Chicken & Vegetable Stew contains 14.8% fat on a dry matter basis. Hill's Pet Nutrition

    Can cats eat canine ID?

    1. This is prescription only. Since you can’t get it without a prescription from the vet, your vet should answer this question. Typically cat and dog food are very different formulas and not interchangeable.

I have a 10 week old Australian Cattle Dog and we were sent home with this food by the vet after the poor thing had an upset stomach. I have been searching everywhere for afeeding guide. How much should I be giving him each day?I feed him 3 times a day.

    1. I don't know the exact amount of food to give your dog, but if it was my dog, I would give him about a half a can to start and see how it affects him. If it stays down OK, try a lunchtime feeding of the rest of the can. Puppies need more calories but the whole thing really depends on why his stomach is upset. I hope this is just a temporary situation and he can go back on regular food soon. I'm sorry I wasn't more help. Good luck to you.

Can I mix the Chicken with the Turkey i/d canned foods?

    1. I would.

I have 9# dog. How much she should eat a day

    1. Thank you for your question; we are happy to help. If you are feeding this food exclusively to an adult dog who weighs 9 lbs, we suggest about 1 & 1/3 12.5 oz. cans per day. This amount may be adjusted to maintain optimal weight. Hill’s Pet Nutrition
