EQUIOXX (firocoxib) is the first and only coxib class NSAID approved for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses. Available in a chewable tablet for easy and accurate dosing, EQUIOXX lasts up to 24 hours1 to help improve your horse's mobility. EQUIOXX has been tested on more horses in safety studies than any other NSAID.1,2 EQUIOXX requires a prescription from your veterinarian. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be associated with gastrointestinal, hepatic and renal toxicity. Use with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids or nephrotoxic medication should be avoided. EQUIOXX has not been tested in horses less than 1 year of age or in breeding horses, or pregnant or lactating mares. Horses with a hypersensitivity of firocoxib should not receive EQUIOXX. EQUIOXX (firocoxib) Tablets can be used at a dosage of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight for up to 14 days of treatment. The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX Tablets is one 57 mg tablet, for oral administration in horses weighing 800-1300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days. The overall duration of treatment with any firocoxib formulation in horses, including EQUIOXX Oral Paste or Tablets will be dependent on the response observed, but should not exceed 14 days. EQUIOXX may be given with or without food. Please see package insert for additional information.
Horses should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests should be conducted to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data before and periodically during administration of any NSAID. Treatment with EQUIOXX (firocoxib) should be terminated if signs such as inappetance, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed. See package insert for full information.
