  • -

Brazilian Rainbow Boas are beautiful snakes available in variations of red and orange color patterns, but they also have a gorgeous iridescence that can be seen in good lighting. Like most boas species, they can be kept in a 20-gallon terrarium as juveniles and will require much more space as adults. They are a mostly a terrestrial snake, which means they spend most of their time on the ground. They enjoy hiding in the lush forests in nature, so provide décor to allow for hiding. A large water bowl for soaking is also necessary. These boas are slightly more aggressive than other boas, especially as juveniles, but this can be controlled by regular handling.Feeding tip: It is always recommended to feed snakes in a container outside of their habitat. This is the best way to help limit any feeding responses from being associated with the habitat. This will also keep any substrate from being ingested while eating. A secure, small plastic container is most commonly used. By keeping this container dark you help ease stress from being moved from their habitat.

A well-balanced rainbow boa diet consists of appropriately sized frozen rodents, thawed/warmed to above room temperature. Feed juveniles once a week, adults every one to two weeks. Feed in a separate tank so that your snake doesn't associate your hand or the habitat being opened with feeding. Fresh, clean, chlorine-free water should be available at all times in a bowl large enough for your snake to soak in.

Always wash your hands before and after handling your reptile and/or habitat contents to help prevent the potential spread of diseases.
