- If it’s a 10 gallon filter, use a medium cartridge. 20 or above, use a large cartridge. Below 10, use a small.

Instead of a cartridge can you use a coarse sponge insert?
- I bought the pack of white filter material and cut to size. It works great for keeping my tank clean and I can reuse each piece several times before needing a new piece.

I took the filter out of the box. I put the cartridge in and put it in the tank and plugged it in .How do I know that the filter is working? Is there anything else I need to do?
- if there's water flowing from the spout, it's working; replace your cartridge every week or so; I recommend getting the pads of filter mesh and/or carbon rather than the cartridges (they're just cheaper and i think they're better)
