Okay but definitely doesn’t filter well.

Bought these and tried to put them on & the suction cup broke. I understand they are supposed to come off and on but it broke from just barely touching it. Anyways, once I swapped my fish out from its tank for a tank change, the water smelled like straight up sewage. I’m talking like the bathroom after thanksgiving type beat. It reaked. I did a test on the water strips I had and boom, massive ammonia levels. Man, are your balls as sweaty as mine? Anyways, my fish hated it. Swapped it out for an actual filter and the stanky stinky doo doo water is gone. Was very loud too, often making very loud blub blub noises. Balls.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Replace the carbon, not the sponge

So, I like the small betta sponge filters. Super cute and practical for a small betta tank, I would recommend them to anyone with a betta (especially if your tank doesn't currently have a filter). But why would you include the sponge in the replaceable cartridges? You do need to replace the carbon once a month, but the sponge is where you'd grow all your beneficial bacteria! You almost never need to get the sponge replaced. Now people who don't know any better will lose all their bacteria whenever they replace the cartidge. If you do buy these small filters (which, I again, I love) KEEP the sponge portion whenever you replace the cartridge. You only want to replace the carbon.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Where would I change the carbon? Does it come with it? Or is that something I need to add to the filter?

  1. It does come with a carbon cartridge. Then you can purchase refill cartridges to change them as needed.

Is this where you just put it in the tank and it filters the water?

  1. Correct -- the filter cartridges go inside the filter. You'll want to make sure you get the correct size of whatever filter you have, though!
