My rabbit ate styrofoam. Is it safe for my bunny to eat styrofoam?

In addition, rabbits that do not eat hay can get gut stasis, which is where their intestines stop moving. This can quickly become life threatening if it goes untreated. I know you want to avoid a stressful trip to the vet, but without prompt medical attention I worry that Bronco will get worse quickly. If he is still not eating since you posted your question, please take Bronco to a rabbit-savvy vet as soon as possible. They can administer medications to help with pain and inflammation, give him special food, and help rehydrate him with fluids. I am sorry to hear about Sophie! Hopefully she chewed it up a bit before swallowing. If it was small and chewed it should not cause any harm and will pass through the digestive tract. Our main concern with an ingestion like this would be a blockage in the intestines. I would monitor her for the next few days to be sure she is eating normally and having normal bowel movements. If you notice her having any decreases in appetite/feces produced I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian.

Poor girl. Styrofoam does have the potential to cause an obstruction, although smaller pieces have less of a tendency to do so. Monitor her for signs of an intestinal obstruction which includes excessive vomiting, lack of appetite, abdominal pain and weakness. Typically signs of an obstruction will occur within 24-48 hrs. If she seems fine beyond this then she's in the clear; however if you note these symptoms then take her to the vet immediately. In the meantime, feed her wet (canned) food to help bind it and then take her on 20-30 minute brisk walks twice a day to promote GI motility.

I would recommend just monitoring Winnie at home. it is possible the styrofoam will pass on its own at home. however if winnie stops eating,drinking,vomiting or acting lethargic I would high recommend taking her to the vet for an exam and possible x-ray to look for an obstruction. Hope that helps
