My hamster escaped its cage. What should I do to find my lost pet?

He could still be alive. Check the cabinets and other low areas that have a lot of hiding places. I recommend to keep the dogs in crates or outside because many dogs would kill and possibly eat a rodent. Almond may not be afraid of the dogs because he is domesticated and has never been hunted. Place some small piles of food out, leave his cage out and open. You may even put out his favorite toys, wheels or rollie ball to encourage him to come out. You may place some flour on the ground in the areas you suspect he may be hiding. Most rodents will run along a wall rather than out in the middle of a room. Hamsters natural inclination being a small rodent is to be afraid/hide. Some patience and treats may help earn your hamsters trust. First try spending some time each day just sitting quietly outside your hamsters cage. You can read a book or something that doesn't require movement, just be near the cage. Once your hamster doesn't run away while you are quietly sitting you can start just placing your hand in the cage without trying to pick her up. Placing a tasty treat near your hand to entice her to come near. If you do this every day, eventually she will hopefully come to find you less scary and allow you to interact with her more!

The size is not so important. It is important not to move the toys, housing, etc around too much, ie put them back exactly where they were after cleaning out the cage, so your hamster can find his way around, knows where to hide quickly and does not get stressed. Kitten or cow's milk is not the same as hamster milk and quite possibly will lead to diarrhea in the babies. Hamster milk is typically very concentrated so using a mixture of goat's milk and condensed milk might work. Try offering finely chopped vegetables, placing them in the mouth and monitor for ability to chew. This will be difficult. Good luck.
