What is 50/50 warm water and Pedialyte for pets, and when to use it?

Honestly it is better to give plain water however, if you do give Pedialyte you need to make sure you dilute it first. The electrolyte amounts in Pedialyte are made for humans and not animals and it also has a lot of sugar!! To dilute it: mix equal amounts of water and pedialyte together (ex: 1 cup of pedialyte with 1 cup of water). At 10 pounds, Poppy can have about 1 to 1.5 cups of the mixture per day - divide that into small amounts every 30-60 minutes. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Pedialyte is a balanced electrolyte replacement solution that has sodium, potassium & chloride, & sometimes high amounts of glucose (sugar). It is used primarily in humans, but can be utilized in other species, especially dogs & cats. Since there is no balanced electrolyte solutions for reptiles, if you decide to use some for your reptile, then make sure it is unflavored. Poor guy. Yes you sure can give him Pedialyte but only the non-flavored kind diluted 50:50 with water. You can use a syringe or small turkey baster to given it to him if he doesn't take it readily. You can give him as much as he will take readily (probably around 20cc's) and offer it every 4 hrs or so. Poor guy I hope Oliver feels better soon. Take care.

Ten ounces of water per every 10 pounds of body weight per day is about average. So at 14 pounds she would need about 14 ounces of water per day to stay hydrated. This should be broken up into very small amounts throughout the day. If you are giving Pedialyte you should dilute it 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Pedialyte is not balanced electrolytes for dogs and it is has a lot of synthetic sweeteners in it which are not good. Plain water is fine to give.

Is she is not having any fluid loss (diarrhea or vomiting) she should have about 40 oz in 24 hours. If she is having loss still then she needs the 40 Oz PLUS the amount she lost. 1/2 cup is 4 oz. so if no loss and you are doing 1/2 cup hourly for at least 12 Hours of the day you should be pretty good. You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. You can give diluted pedialyte or I would recommend giving a veterinary product such as NaturVet Pet Electrolytes Concentrate Dog & Cat Liquid Supplement, 16-oz bottle. This can be found at your local Petco or online. I would hold off on giving any electrolytes though as what you are describing does not sound like dehydration is the problem.
