Oral potassium supplements are used to treat potassium deficiency (hypokalemia), often occurring as a result of kidney disease. These supplements should only be used if evidence of low potassium levels have been noted on your pet’s blood work. Potassium is important for many functions in the body. If hypokalemia is present, it needs to be corrected so animals can fully function.
Hypokalemia, renal disease
Oral potassium supplements replace the potassium in the body that is lost due to kidney disease.
Dogs and Cats: 2 milliequivalents per 4.5 kilograms body weight by mouth or in food twice daily.

Hypokalemia can cause various symptoms in pets, such as lack of appetite, lethargy, vomiting and weakness. These signs will begin to resolve as the potassium levels normalize in your pet.
