Will my unneutered dog impregnate female dog again after birth?

Hello. It is tough to tell without an x-ray or ultrasound exam. It is very possible that the male still had viable sperm in his reproductive tract ( sperm can remain viable for 3-4 weeks in the accessory sex glands of a recently neutered male ). The good news is that your male dog was neutered. While neutered male dogs *can* mate with in heat females, they do so uncommonly and obviously can't impregnate the female. The fact that Bella and her housemate were only alone for a few minutes makes penetration unlikely, as this usually takes some time when dogs "tie" during the mating process. Even if your male did mate with Bella, there is no cause for concern! However, keep an eye out on your male dog to see if he's been licking the skin around his penis excessively. Salivary staining can lead to a reddish-brown discoloration of the fur, which can look a little bit like blood. If he's licking a lot, it would be best to take him to see his vet in case he's starting to develop a skin infection.

If you have the two of them together while she is in heat, she may become pregnant. Even if they are from the same litter and are brother/sister, they will still breed if given the chance. Therefore, if you do not want them to breed, it would be best to either separate them completely while she's in heat, or have one or both of them "fixed." At 6 months old, your male dog can be neutered at any time. It would be best to wait until the female is out of heat, because the surgery is a bit more difficult to perform when the female is in heat as there is increased blood flow to the uterus. It is quite possible she is in pup - males can be fertile for 4-6weeks after castration so if they were not separated, or other males would have had access to her when she was in heat she may well be in pregnant. I recommend you schedule an ultrasound exam with your vet to confirm pregnancy and guide appropriate management. You will need to arrange a separate area for her and pups away from other dogs for at least 6weeks if she is rearing pups

If you are unable to have one or both of the dogs spayed/neutered then you will have to be diligent about keeping them separated while the female is in heat. I would recommend keeping the female in the house and the male outside because if you leave the female outside there is a chance another male dog could mate her. I hope this helps. How lovely of you to adopt Forest, I'm glad she has a happy ended after such a terrible experience. To answer your question, she will still be fertile. Fertility doesn't decrease with age, but it's never recommend to breed a dog over 5-6 years of age. Because your Yorkie could become sexually mature any day now, I would keep him separated from Forest in case she goes into heat before getting spayed in April. You don't want to mate her, it's not healthy on her older body. I hope this helps!
