Why did the stray dog I fed suddenly get paralyzed, swollen, and die?

I am very sorry you lost Snoopy today! It could be that he had a tumor causing his symptoms, that could have been located in his brain or along his spine. A tumor pressing on his brain would cause him to lose the ability to use his legs correctly and be unable to control his bowels. A tumor on his spine could cause the same symptoms. He also could have had an illness causing this to happen. You can take Snoopy's body into the vet to do a necropsy (an autopsy) on him to see what caused him to pass away. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.

First off, I'm so very sorry that you lost DJ suddenly. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Unfortunately without seeing him in person, I cannot say what caused him to pass away. It could be he got into something toxic, he could have had heart disease, or it could be he had cancer causing him to pass away. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what happened, but it could be she had a problem with her heart, got into something toxic, or may have had cancer like a splenic hemagiosarcoma that ruptured. I'm so sorry for your loss! It it's so hard when you lose a pet that young. It's hard to know for sure what happened with Duck but with very low white cell counts I would be concerned about infection in his bone marrow such as a tickborne disease or even potentially cancer. The only way to truly know what caused his passing would be a post more exam similar to an autopsy of people. However from my experience many times we still don't get an exact answer. Please know from what I can tell this is not anything you did or did not do or any indication of anything lacking on your part.

I'm only guessing here, but if he wasn't vaccinated, it could have been parvo that caused him to pass. It could also be that he had a foreign body, a severe GI illness, or if he was fed a raw diet, the bacteria from the raw diet could have made him extremely sick. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

These are very general signs that could have happened due to many different conditions such as ones affecting the heart or it could have possibly been due to internal bleeding. It is hard to know with just a brief description provided but those are some things that can affect a dog suddenly. So sorry to hear this again.

That’s very sad. Sudden blindness can be from high blood pressure causing retinal detachment or diabetic cataracts. She may have had a heart or lung condition that prevented her from getting enough air and chest expansion to bark. Dogs do die from congestive heart failure, complications from heartworm disease and other heart problems. Unfortunately neither of the symptoms you describe are specific enough to know why she died.
