Why does my senior beagle have red, weeping, smelly skin wounds?

I'd have to say that I'm concerned about that focal mass area that is pigmented black, but the rest of this lesion does not look like any type of skin cancer I have seen. If the vet is concerned that this is cancer, typically we debulk (remove as much as possible) or completely remove what we can before attempting chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is also best guided when we know exactly the type of tumor we are dealing with, as there are several types of cancers that can affect the skin of dogs. My advice would be to get a biopsy performed of this lesion and get an exact diagnosis before proceeding with treatment.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Judging from the photis, this appears to have a raised area in the center. This could be a sebaceous cyst that ruptured and is now secondarily infected or has an open wound on it that won't heal. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this and have some additional testing performed on it to determine what it could be. With more information on what this could be, the most appropriate treatment can then be started. If you are unable to get to your vet right now, I would recommend using an ointment called zymox topical ointment to apply to the area. If the ointment does not help aftwr 5-7 days or it worsens during that time, I would get kane to the vet for an exam. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Any lumps/bumps/sores that you notice on your dog should be checked out by your vet. They are usually one of three things: * abscess (infection) * cyst * cancer There is no way I can tell you what it is via the internet especially without examining her myself. At her age I would be very worried about a tumor.

I would recommend that you have Varna evaluated by a vet. From your description, she may have many small hemangiomas. These types of tumors are usually benign, but can keep popping up. If they rupture they can bleed and become infected. From the picture, the mass could be a hemangioma, or something else like a mast cell tumor. Your vet will be able to examine Varna, and may take a small sample of cells with a needle for examination under a microscope. Once they have a better idea of what the mass is made of, they can recommend an appropriate treatment, if any.

This could be a benign skin mass like a wart or a lipoma or could be something more serious like a mast cell tumor. My best recommendation is to take Mara to the veterinarian so a fine needle aspirate and cytology can be performed. I strongly recommend you seek referral to a dermatologist due to the severity f his signs. Blood tests would also be recommended to rule out liver disease as in certain cases this can manifest as non-healing, progressive skin problems

I would recommend that Chance have these wounds checked out by a veterinarian. They could be caused by hotspots, allergies, bacterial skin infections, fleas, mites, among a few others. Since they are spread out over the body, Chance would probably benefit from oral prescription antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, in addition to treating the originating cause.
