In-breeding over time can cause certain characteristic traits and genetic qualities (including defects) to be selected for that are undesirable. However it is unsure what exact characteristic traits will predominate in each individual puppy and to what degree. I think it is fair to ask if this line of pedigree has any genetic defects that you should be concerned about that could possibly pass on to Mabei, to make this breeder a bit more transparent in information and also hold them accountable for informing you as a concerned potential adoptee. Also another great tool is the DNA genetic testing (the blood test that is done through a vet, not the cheek swab one which is highly inaccurate) which will give you a list of genetic predispositions and abnormalities that Mabei currently has so that you are aware from the very beginning of any disease processes she will be vulnerable to developing later in life. In-breeding is not what we want to see done in any situation, because it creates all kinds of genetic nightmares in most situations and does not speak highly of this breeder in my professional opinion. With that type of gene selection I would not be surprised to see issues such as blindness and deafness. You could have a prepurchase exam done by a veterinarian to include examining the retinas as well as even potentially specialize electrical diagnostics to test for hearing ability prior to buying the dog.

It is never recommend to breed a female to a larger male due to the increased size of puppies and the subsequent increased risk of dystocia (difficulty giving birth) leading to a c section. I would choose a male who is her weight or small than her to avoid any danger, so pick a breed of male that smaller than she is when she is fully grown. Please know that it is never recommend to breed a dog on her first heat. That's because she will not be fully mature either physically and emotionally, and that leads to an increased risk of dystocia as well as possible poor mothering. You should wait to breed her until at least her second or third heat (around 18 months of age). I hope this helps!

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would advise against breeding any dog who has a liver shunt or is a carrier. Miniature poodles can be affected by liver shunts as well so it is probably not worth the risk that these traits are passed on.

Very interesting question! Crossbred dogs often avoid many of the health conditions which may be associated with their respective pedigree breeds and so are often considered 'healthier'. Breeding is not an exact science however and the genetics of breeding two 50:50 crossbred dogs together could result in a wide range of pups from close to 100% either breed to 50-50 of the mixture!

If you want to breed them together they need to be from different parents. If they are from the same parents you will be inbreeding them and the puppies could potentially be born with potentially life threatening abnormalities.

It's very hard to say what Nagai's puppies will look like since an azkal is a mongrel and they all look differently. You will honestly only know what the puppies will look like when they are born. The only concern I have about the mating is if the azkal was much bigger than Nagai. Female dogs should not be mated with male dogs much bigger than they are, because that leads to larger puppies and more difficulty giving birth. I would be prepared that if she starts to show any problems giving birth, she will need to see a vet immediately as she may need a c section.
