My 5-week puppy whines. Should I leave him or give him milk?

At this age, if Mila wakes you up by whining in the middle of the night, I would take her outside for a potty break - she's too young to be expected to "hold it" successfully all night. Once she potties, bring her back inside and calmly put her back to bed. If needed, you can give her something like a Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter to keep her busy and help her settle again. As she gets older, she will eventually stop needing to go out during the night and will begin to sleep all night without waking up - just like a human baby :)

Young puppies will whine or vocalize when cold, hungry, sick, injured or if left alone for long periods of time. You can make sure he is fed, warm and has company. To diagnose illness or injury, he would need to be physically examined by your veterinarian.

Trooper is such a cutie! :) I would recommend leaving him in a crate or dog-proofed room where he can't get into anything dangerous. Give him something to keep him busy while you're gone, such as a Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter, and be aware that you may need to clean up if he has an accident while you're away - an 8-week-old puppy often can't "hold it" for very long in between potty breaks.

Yes. It can be traumatic for young puppies to leave their mom, litter mates, and previous home that they knew. He needs to develop a new bond with you and learn a new home/environment/routine to gain confidence. Keep working with him and with time and becoming older he will learn. Jackey is very cute. Do not give him cow's milk, it's not appropriate for dogs. It's also not nutritionally balanced for him, and it won't fill him up, leading him to cry for more food. He needs to be weaned onto a puppy food. To help him wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until he is eating the dry puppy food only. I would feed him at least four times a day. I hope this helps.

It is normal for a puppy as young as Bella to need to go outside once at night. I'd recommend taking her outside when she starts whining: make sure you go straight outside because you don't want her to think this is play time. If she does not urinate or defecate bring her back inside and out her directly in the crate. If she starts whining again do your best to ignore her until the morning. This is generally something she should grow out of as long as you are consistent.

She's a baby, it's natural she is whining. It's hard being separated from your mother and siblings. She will be getting water from the canned food, add additional water to it. Give her lots of love and attention, and have her checked out by a vet just to be sure this whining isn't caused by a medical issue.
