My puppy threw up after treats. Should I worry about dehydration?

Poor Benji! If he's only vomited once or twice, it is best to keep an eye on him. You can also offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. Small breeds are more prone to issues such as hypoglycemia, so making sure Benji is fed several smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger ones may help, and may also decrease vomiting so he isn't eating too much all in one meal. If he continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness in addition to it, a vet visit is best to rule out other issues such as illnesses, parasites, foreign body ingestion, etc that can also cause vomiting.

If he is otherwise acting fine, you could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see how he does with that. She probably vomited because she ate a lot of different treats. At this point, you shouldn’t be concerned but if she continues to vomit or becomes lethargic then she should be examined by your vet. Any type of new diet or treat can cause gastric upset and new foods should be introduced gradually.

If she is bright and alert and willing to eat i recommend feeding small, bland low fat meals and offering pedialyte and also fresh water to reduce the risk of developing dehydration. If she is restless and reluctant to eat she should be assessed by a vet. Obstructions, impactions and pancreatitis are all relatively common after breaking into the treat jar!

In dogs, we can sometimes tell dehydration is present if we look at their gums and they seem dry or tacky instead of wet/covered in saliva. In some cases we can also see what is called "skin tenting" where if we pull up the extra skin between the shoulder blades and release it, it doesn't immediately snap back into place. These signs, however, occur with severe dehydration. If your dog was vomiting repeatedly for a day, he is likely dehydrated. He should go to the vet for an exam, fluids to rehydrate him, and an injection to help stop the vomiting. They may recommend testing (x-rays and bloodwork) to try to determine the cause of vomiting to more accurately recommend treatment.

Alternatively, this can be a dietary indiscretion from getting into something he should have like picking up something on the floor, or eating food from the table, or getting a new treat. I would continue to monitor him for ongoing vomiting, having a low appetite, or developing any diarrhea and have him evaluated by your veterinarian if he does develop any of this.
