Why is my 3-month Golden puppy's hip large and he's limping?

The right hip has severe dysplasia (the x-ray is not marked so I am assuming it is the right one). The other hip looks OK. The only way to fix this is with surgery - either a FHO procedure or a total hip replacement. You need to speak to your vet about options. There is no medication to reverse, cure or stop the progression of this disease. Surgery will definitely be needed.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Pierre’s care today! I do not think you should wrap it without knowing what is going on. This is not likely to help and may actually cause harm. Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

I would definitely recommend taking him to your veterinarian for an exam. An abnormal gait and 'popping' could be a sign of hip dysplasia causing subluxation of the hip joint. Luxating patellas, or kneecaps that pop in and out of the joint would be another possibility. You have a few more options for treatment if these joint problems are caught early, so I'd recommend making an appointment soon.

We often see torn ACLs in large breed dogs with limping in the hind limbs. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. That is unusual that Dirt's left hip bone looks larger than normal. It's good that she isn't limping and is not showing any signs of pain when you manipulate her leg. It's a good idea that she sees a vet for this problem, and it's fine to wait a week for it since she seem otherwise normal. I would recommend getting x-rays done on the hip to help diagnose what is causing it to look larger than normal. To be safe, I would rest her until her appointment. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. Good luck!

I would recommend Kobe have a thorough orthopedic and neurological exam by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian may need to do x-rays of both his hips and knees to check for certain diseases like arthritis and kneecap issues. Depending on what is going on Kobe may need medication such as joint supplements or even surgery.

I would definitely take him to see your vet. He may have a hidden injury, the shifting lameness could indicate a condition affecting his bones called panosteitis, which is seen in growing puppies, usually large breeds. Since he's feeling poorly overall, I think the sooner he sees the vet, the better. Your vet will do an exam, probably labwork and x-rays, and based on these results, will be better able to inform you about your dog's condition and how best to treat it.
