How many roundworms can a puppy have, and how serious is the infestation?

There is really no limit. Sometimes you can see a pile of worms after deworming, but this is not a problem. It's actually good to know that they are all out of there. The only concern with too many worms is that they can get stuck in the intestines when they all die at once and potentially cause a blockage. This would be obvious, because Nitro would stop defecating, stop eating, feel really bad and likely vomit. This is a rare occurrence, but good to keep an eye out for. Otherwise, there's no worries about the number of worms in his stool. I hope that helps and all is well with Nitro.

Poor pup. Roundworms are very common in puppies, because they can get infected while still in their mothers tummy (in utero) and through the mother's milk. To treat roundworms Harry just needs a broad spectrum dewormer like Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole. 1 treatment given today and then again in 2 weeks. To prevent roundworm infestations in the future Harry needs to get on a monthly heartworm preventative, which has natural intestinal dewormer in it as well. Harry will need to see a vet to get a prescription for the heartworm preventative (i.e. Heartgard, Trifexis, etc), but the intestinal dewormer can be purchased through your local pet store. Your pup should be just fine once he is treated. : )

Those are roundworms which are easily treated with a product against gastrointestinal parasites that you can buy on prescription at your local veterinarian. Hard/swollen nipples cannot be caused by these parasites. Just in case, make sure your veterinarian is confirming the presence of roundworms (tapeworms can sometimes be confused for roundworms). If tapeworms are present, Koda will need a special medication. The two most common reasons for persistent infection with roundworms are not yet clearing the infection he was born with (yes, they can be infected in uterus) or your yard is contaminated with roundworm eggs (one study showed roundworm eggs remained infective for 20 years). Continue with the routine dewormings and start him on a heartworm prevention like Interceptor. You should also alert your vet who may change the deworming schedule. Remember that these worms can also spread to humans so make sure to practice good hygiene. Hi there. If the parasite load is so high you are seeing them in large quantities like this-it's time to go to the vet. These parasites can deplete a young puppy's immune system quickly, and is overall upsetting to the gi system. I recommend taking her as soon as you can. I hope this helps

I recommend you take your puppies to the vet, along with a sample of their feces so the vet can run a fecal test if they so choose. Your puppies need regular deworming, as infestations of worms can make them very sick, and severe infections can be deadly. Worms in the stool (dead or alive) are cause for concern, and some types of worms can even be transmitted from dogs to humans and make them sick. Black stool may indicate blood, which requires treatment by your vet. The link below contains information on roundworms, and there are links to information on hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms within the body of the text. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951364 . Good luck, and I hope your puppies feel better soon!

There will be more! Give Toby a deworming treatment like Panacur or Drontal. He will need one every two weeks until he is 12 weeks old. Then one every month until he is six months of age, and after that he should be dewormed once every three months.
