What's this red bubble on my 5-month-old puppy's gum or tooth?

I would not be too concerned about the tooth at this time. It is difficult to tell from the picture, but the tooth in question looks as if it is a baby tooth that has broken off. If this is the case, the tooth will fall out sometime between 12-16 weeks of age. If this is an adult tooth, then I would recommend you continue to monitor it for now. If the tooth is still looking abnormal at the time of your dog’s spay (around 6 months of age) then your vet can remove it while she is already under anesthesia. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Judging from the pictures, it appears that the tooth may have been traumatized. This may or may not have compromised the health of the tooth. I would recommend a dental cleaning to remove any tartar and also to get x-rays done of that particular tooth to see if there is any evidence the tooth is broken below the gingiva or if there is disease of the pulp chamber of the tooth. Thanks for attaching a picture. If it feels like normal gum tissue (soft, moveable) it is possibly due to contact from the k9 tooth above it (overgrowth of tissue from irritation). Do you see the same thing on the other side? If it is more firm, painful, red, or grew rapidly that would be more concerning and then it should be evaluated by your family vet. If you elect to monitor certainly have your vet take a look at his next annual visit. If the lesion changes (growth, etc.) certainly have your vet take a look at it sooner. Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It's hard to tell for sure from the picture but that small area does not look like a major concern to me. It is near impossible to diagnose a growth on just a picture alone so it's probably a good idea to have a veterinarian check out the bump area within the next few weeks (especially if it changes in size, shape or color). A veterinarian will be able to take a needle aspirate of the area and see what kind of cells are there to determine if anything needs to be done about the bump. At minimum I would closely monitor the area and if the shape, size or color changes, take Lucy to be examined. Regards to you and Lucy!

Hello, it does not look like anything overall concerning at this time. Some dogs may develop cyst on their lips which may resolve on their own. Keep a close eye on it, and if you see it get larger, become firm, or develop any discharge, then you should indeed have him seen. If needed the likely next step is to remove, since medicine would not resolve that unless it was an infection which it does not initially appear to be. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello, that looks like gingival hyperplasia. This a common disease in dogs with dental disease. It is typically benign, but may cause some discomfort and bleeding if it ever gets too large. It can also be removed by your veterinarian during's Piper's next dental cleaning. Contact your veterinarian and have them evaluate her for an oral exam and determine if she needs to have her teeth cleaned. This will also serve as a way to check her gums and determine of the overgrowth of her gingiva needs to be trimmed or removed. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The photo is a little fuzzy so its hard to say. It may be an oral papilloma, which is due to canine papillomavirus. Typically these resolve on their own, but many more may pop up over the next few weeks on his lips and in his mouth. It could also be an inflamed hair follicle or a skin infection. If its not resolving over the next few days to weeks, or if it seems to be getting worse or causing him discomfort, please take him to your vet to be evaluated.
