My puppy is overdue for first shots. How long can I safely delay them?

Yes, this isn't good because Kupa isn't protected against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. Plus, by law, he should be rabies vaccinated by now, and since he's not, that's breaking the law. You need to get him into a vet asap to start his vaccine schedule over again, and start his rabies vaccine series.

If at 5 months, this will be the first time he will be receiving vaccines, then I would recommend he receive his rabies vaccine and distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus vaccine as well as bordetella if he will be around other dogs or kenneled. He will need a booster of the distemper and bordetella in 3-4 weeks. His next vaccines would typically be given 3-4 weeks later, so he's a little overdue. You should call your vet to schedule his next appointment right away. Hope this helps!
