My puppy got head stuck in kennel and died. How can I prevent this?

I’m so sorry for your loss. Several things could have happened. We are getting to the season of heat stroke. If Baylee could not get into shade or air conditioning, she absolutely could have succumbed to heat. This is especially true if it the crate is mostly closed (eg NOT a wire crate). If that seems unlikely, a congenital problem seems next most probable. Whenever there is sudden death in a young dog, we are always suspicious of a heart, lung, or even brain defect that is not detectable on a normal exam. Toxin and other problems are also possible but less likely. Again, I am so sorry about the loss of Baylee. I hope that throws shed a little light and helps bring peace.

I am so sorry. I know that must be hard. Unfortunately, without a necropsy (autopsy), I can't tell you what could have happened. Many causes of sudden death in pediatric pets is due to a congenital heart disease.

I'm so very sorry Rudy died, please accept my condolences for your loss. I would be concerned that he could have had a serious disease like parvovirus or an obstruction of the GI tract. It could have also had an intususseception of the intestines. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry that Cookie passed. What a shock for you :( Don't blame yourself. Dogs are very good at hiding illnesses until it's too late sometimes. It is extremely difficult for me to comment on what happened since I was not there to see what the vet saw. I think you need to get clarification from them. If food was stuck in the esophagus that would not cause passing but if it was stuck there, she may have coughed it up and then it aspirated "down the wrong tube" (into the trachea) when she went to swallow it again. Again, so sorry this happened but if you have questions you need to clarify with your vet since they saw it.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Penelope. Unfortunately, without an necropsy (autopsy), there is no way to know for sure what happened. A few things that can happen could include a bad heart, an outpouching of a large blood vessel that ruptures internally or an aneurysm. Try to focus on the positive memories you made with her. It's so hard to lose them. My condolences.

Hello. I am so sorry for your loss. It is very hard to say if this was preventable, but quite likely, it was not. This degree of heart disease in such a young puppy would have come from a congenital birth defect, a fairly common occurrence in this breed of dog. If a murmur was picked up early enough, an electrocardiogram would have been able to pinpoint the problem, & the next step would have been open heart surgery. This was absolutely not negligence by your veterinarian. Birth defects do happen in animals, just like in people. Some are manageable, others, like this are sadly not, unless you go to extraordinary measures. I know you are sad about this loss. Please accept my sincere condolences & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your puppy. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if to have a necropsy (autopsy preformed). This is strictly a guess, but the most common reason for the sudden death is a heart defect. I recommend to call the breeder and alert them. They may need to do more screening on the parents and keep a record in case it happens to other puppies. Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet puppy. My condolences.
