What food should I feed my new puppy and how much is enough?

Ash is a very cute puppy!! My suggestion (and what I feed my own dog) is Royal canin medium puppy. Its a red and white bag and sold at Petsmart or online. It has a chart on the back of the bag to determine how much to feed per day. It's a very high quality food. Only buy a small bag, as it should be open for no longer than 1 month (as it does not contain artificial preservatives). It also has a satisfaction guarantee.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Alex is adorable! Congratulations! I would choose a high quality commercial puppy food. I like Hill's science diet, Royal Canin and Purina. Since Alex is a small breed I would choose a dry and a canned to mix until he is about 4 months then change to all dry. I would also feed him small frequent meals, maybe about 3-4 times per day until he is 14-16 weeks. Toy breed puppies can suffer from low blood sugar. I hope this helps and I wish you and Alex the very best!

Good question! I recommend either Royal Canin Puppy food or Hill's Science Diet puppy food. Both of these companies do a lot of research and quality control and they utilize the expertise of veterinary nutritionists in formulating their diets. If you do transition Jax from one diet to another please make sure to do it gradually (over 4-5 days) to ensure he doesn't get an upset stomach. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and best regards to you and Jax!

Good on you for doing this! Trusty needs a puppy formulated food still, and brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I personally feed my dogs Iams and they love it. Start the switch now, and do it slowly to avoid GI upset. Best of luck.

Great question! At almost two months of age, Ooge is old enough to be fed a puppy formulated food. It has to be a puppy formulated food because puppies require higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than an adult dog. A puppy food will provide everything he needs to grow properly. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. On the bag, there is a daily recommended amount of food, and I would divide that into three equal portions to feed him three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Once he turns six months old, he can be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I hope this helps :-)

I would recommend a good, high quality puppy food. If your puppy is going to be a larger dog then I always recommend feeding a puppy food that is specifically a 'large breed' puppy food. There are many good brands of dog food available. A few of the brands I like and recommend are Hill's, Purina, Eukanuba, Iams, and Royal Canin. Congratulations on your new puppy!

Congratulations on your new addition! As a general rule of thumb, I typically recommend feeding Science Diet, Royal Canin or Purina ProPlan foods. These companies do extensive clinical testing to assure that their foods are nutritionally appropriate and source ingredients appropriately. Odin should eat a puppy food until he is 1 year old. Anytime you change his diet, be sure to do so by gradually mixing old and new foods together over a 5-7 day period. Sudden diet changes have a greater chance of causing vomiting and diarrhea.
