My 3-month-old puppy fell. What are the risks of injury?

Given her age, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian. X-rays may be indicated to rule out fractures. Restrict her activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play. Do not medicate her as many OTC drugs cannot be used in puppies or may be toxic to dogs.

Hello. Most likely the puppy is fine, but you might want to pick her up & do a little exam on her. Gently pull on each leg & make sure she pulls back evenly ( you might want to try this with a litter mate first to get an idea of what is normal ). Then see how she does when you place her back down. Does she wiggle in a normal manner back to mom. If she seems to react in a similar manner to her siblings, then she is probably fine. Newborns are pretty resilient. Hi and thanks for posting. A fall can cause bone or ligament injuries. He may have endured a sprain or muscle pull or could be more serious such as a fracture or luxation. I would recommend Simba be evaluated by his veterinarian soon for a hands on exam to determine what is going on here with the paws. He may need x-rays to determine the extent of the injury.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Vito. If a fracture has been ruled out by x-rays, then I suspect that he suffered a painful soft tissue injury. He likely has a fair amount of swelling causing the firmness that you feel. I assume that his veterinarian prescribed him pain medication. Keep him very quiet and give the medication as directed. If he was not given any medication, do not give any over-the-counter pain medication as these can be toxic to dogs. Contact your veterinarian for one if it was not provided. If he does have medication, but it does not seem to be strong enough than ask for a secondary one to be added. I hope this information helps!

yes, any possible head/neck injury is always concerning and non weight bearing lameness combined with the poor balance causing him to fall over are all red flags for a possible serious fracture. Please have him fully assessed buy a vet urgently, it is possible he will require xrays to rule out broken bones

Puppies can heal quickly so please feel the leg and as long as it feels normal and he doesn’t cry then you can give him a few days to recover. I’d keep him quiet and take him out for potty breaks only for a day or two. If he’s still lame then you’ll need a veterinary exam to determine the cause. Poor Hunter! It sounds like he hurt himself jumping, and giving his young age, yes I would take him into the vet. This is because it's possible he could have broken a bone, and in young puppies, having an untreated broken bone could affect his growth. I think it's worth the vet visit. I hope this helps!
