My 4-week-old puppy has a clear runny nose. Is he getting sick?

It depends. Is he still nursing? Gaining weight like the rest of his litter mates? Showing interest in what's going on? Was he examined after birth to ensure that he doesn't have a cleft palate? Was his mother vaccinated against distemper? These are all questions your have to ask yourself. A little bit of clear nasal discharge in an otherwise normal puppy probably isn't cause for concern, but if any other concerning signs are present - coughing, lethargy, not nursing and/or gaining weight and ESPECIALLY if distemper is a concern - then see a vet about this.

If the discharge is clear then give it a few days to see if it resolves on its own, because it is possible this is just allergic rhinitis. If the clear draingae is severe, then you can also call your vet to see if they can recommend antihistamines for Panda to try. However if the discharge is any other color, then it's best to take Panda in to your vet for treatment because an infection is likely present, requiring the use of antibiotics to clear things up. I hope your puppy feels better soon!

It sounds like Stormy has an infection. I would recommend to take Stormy into the vet for an exam. The runny stool should be examined for worms and giardia and these treated if they are found. Puppies commonly get viruses and bacterial infections which should generally clear up with medications. I hope this helps!

A dry or wet nose doesn’t tell us a lot about their health but dogs shouldn’t have green discharge from the nose. I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam. They may need to take an X-ray to make sure it’s not in his lungs. They can also start him on antibiotics for the infection. Good luck and kisses to Percy!

This is usually treated with antibiotics. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Allergies are not common in a puppy but they can occur. More common would be an infection. I recommend to have him examined by a veterinarian. New pets should generally have an exam soon after they are adopted to test for worms which could spread to humans and have an over all health assessment. I hope this helps.

It could be a mild viral infection, as long as they are feeding and acting normally I wouldn't recommend trying to treat it, their immune system is still very fragile but the mother's milk should protect them from common infections at this age.
