I paid a guy before mating his male pug with my female pug in which he set the price at $200.00.We tried one hour at his house and one at my house found out we waited to long she wasn't in heat any more he thinks he should be. able to keep my $200.00 dollars l think he is being unfair. I can definitely understand why you would be upset. I agree that it seems unfair he would still want the money when the intended job was not done. Maybe the arrangement was to pay for his time...this would be rather unusual and exorbitant though. Either way, I'd say that's a hefty price to pay and that he should only be paid if that was in the agreed arrangement.

You may consider having a veterinarian advise on the best time to breed next time. They can do a few tests that will predict the best time to mate. This will cost more, but it may save you from having to unnecessarily pay people like this. I've provided a link that has a good explanation of heat and about breeding:

I hope this helps and everything works out.

It depends on the terms of the agreement. However ethically I would be inclined to say that if the mate was not successful then a partial payment should be arranged for the time spent trying to mate the two pets. And it is your responsibility to draw up more detailed terms for the next attempt, if any, so that things are clear for the expectations for payment. Best of luck sorting things out. And remember pets go into heat every 6 months. Best wishes and take care.
