Why is my adopted pug humping, aggressive, and has smelly urine?

Humping can be an ongoing behavior that may happen from time to time and it is not necessarily due to her being spayed. The scooting could be due to anal gland issues. Aggression is complicated because it can be playful aggression, dominance, possessive or anxiety. Unless you are very familiar with canine behavior, training and body language, this is a situation that requires a dog trainer. The trainer will watch Trevor’s behavior and then will teach you how to modify your behavior to change his. You should also get a few books about dog behavior and training so that you can learn how to recognize the body language as this will help. Fear and aggression are both often due to underlying fear and/or anxiety. Working with a trainer will help you learn how to correct behaviors in a way that doesn't exacerbate anxiety or fear. It may be helpful to discuss anti-anxiety medication with your veterinarian as well. I'm sorry you are having these problems with Pepper. Firstly addressing her breed, sometimes the humane society gets a litter of pups with no information about the parents breed types - they use their best judgement to guess what breed the pups are, so they can get it wrong. From the picture, Pepper has the smooth coat of a miniature pincher or Italian greyhound, but she is larger than those breeds. There is a genetic DNA test that can be run which is developed by Mars Scientific. It is available at Banfield Pet Hospitals (and costs around $90 plus office visit fee). With regards to her behavior, this is more of a concern. I suspect you will be best to have a consultation with an experienced pet behaviorist, or vet that specializes in behavior, as I would hate for someone to get bitten badly by her. Try to determine the situations that seem to trigger her aggression, and attempt to prevent similar events occurring (eg. shouting or arguing, meal times, disciplining her). You could also try using a product called "Adaptil" which is a patented pheromone formula and can help lessen the severity of some behavioral problems. It comes in a collar or a plug in diffuser and is made by CEVA. I hope these suggestions can help.

She could be painful or not feel well and she is acting out because of that. It is better for her health to be spayed, she is at risk for an infected uterus which is an expensive surgical emergency. Hormones can affect temperament, so it MAY help but it might not be the solution. If her exam and blood work are normal, you can have her spayed then consider training and medications to control her aggression. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bella the very best!

This is a good question. This may be unrelated to being intact, but in dogs that have early signs of aggression, I find that neutering ASAP can cause those signs to improve. Sometimes mounting behavior will continue (and even seen in females) but if there are other signs of aggression I would neuter immediately and also consider calling a positive reinforcement based trainer.
