My puppies won't leash train. How to protect them from street hazards?

At that age, you have to start individually so they understand what a leash is a proper behavior. Do not let them pull and every time you stop, make them sit. Once they get the basics you can try them together. The hardest part is the distraction of the other puppy as this can make focusing to learn hard. Make sure you provide plenty of treats. You might find good results with using a halti or gentle leader as this help stop them from pulling and directs them a little better than a collar.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oscar. Young puppies will commonly have trouble adjusting to the leash. Be consistent and use positive reinforcement for him, lots of praise and treats. He will adjust, it will just take time and patience. Coax him to go short distances with the treats. he could be afraid of loud noises or cars. If this doesn't work it sound like a severe phobia and you should hire a veterinary behaviorist or trainer. I and most vets are not fans of extendable leashes. I would get a regular to help gently pull him Good luck!

A puppy explores the world by putting things in their mouth. This goes for ok things like food and chew toys, to irritating things like leashes, as well as dangerous things like rocks and socks. Certainly getting a walking harness that attaches to the back (behind the shoulder blades) is one way to prevent Chloe from being able to access the leash while walking. You can also try using positive reinforcement (like giving her praise or a small treat) after a few minutes of walking without grabbing for her leash. Finally, there is a product called Bitter Apple that can be sprayed onto things you want Chloe to learn are not ok to put in her mouth. Like the name suggests, this product tastes bitter and will hopefully help Chloe learn that her leash is for walking not chewing. I hope this helps!
