Which dog worms does ProSense liquid dewormer actually treat?

Round worms are usually treated with pyrantel pamoate which can be used in dogs of all ages. Using a monthly heartworm prevention, like Heartgard, would protect your dogs from heartworms and intestinal parasites so you should talk to your vet about starting Heartgard every month.

This is a roundworm. He is old enough to give pyrantel a safe dewormer that is for roundworms and hook worms. That dewormer is inexpensive. You may be able to purchase it at your pet or feed store depending on where you live. Otherwise your veterinarian can deworm him. Proton should be dewormed every two weeks until a stool sample comes back negative. When he is old enough to start heartworm medication that also will prevent another parasite infection. Please keep the children away from his poop and wash their hands and yours after handling Proton. People can get roundworms but it is not common with normal hygiene. Piperazine only works for roundworms. Panacur treats roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. We prefer to treat all the worms as dogs can often have low levels of other types of worms that may not show up in the fecal exam. You can try mixing the granules in yogurt or even a few table spoons of vanilla (not chocolate!) ice cream to hide the flavor.

The Prosense Dewormer packaging label says for kittens under 6 weeks of age give 1/4 teaspoon per 2.5 lbs and is not recommended for kittens under 2.5 lbs. I would ask your veterinarian for another medication that can be used in small kittens (such as pyrantel). The anti-diarrhea medication from Nutri-Vet is okay to give. Kittens are frequently born with roundworms. This is not uncommon. They get roundworms through their mother during pregnancy and during nursing. I hope this helps!

The best medication for this is usually chosen based on a fecal examination to determine which parasite is affecting Ace. The same deworming medication can be given to your other dog. Panacur (fenbendazole) is probably one of the best broad spectrum dewormers. It treats hookworms, whipworms, roundworms and some tapeworms. It is also used to treat Giardia and lungworms. You will need to contact your veterinarian for a dose based on your dog's body weight. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses for medications in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship).

It is still a good idea to have a vet diagnose what worms or other intestinal parasites are present. And Cujo will need re-treatment in 3 weeks to kill adults that hatch from eggs in the intestines right now.
