Pro-Bind for dog's loose stools with pancreatitis and kidney issues?

Regarding probiotics, Purina's Forti Flora is very good. Pets with pancreatitis also benefit from a special low fat diet. The brand Royal Canin makes a food for pets with pancreatitis called Low Fat and it's only 7% fat (for comparison, a normal fat content for normal food is about 25% though this varies brand to brand). While you could administer probiotics in theory, I prefer to stay away from anything that is not part of the diet or medications while patients are recovering from pancreatitis. Perhaps wait for Meagan to be recovered from her episode of pancreatitis and then you may start her on probiotics. Good luck!

I have no experience with Protease IFC, and I would recommend discussing it's use with the vet that diagnosed Sofia with pancreatitis. Zylkene and probiotics are fine - if you break open the Zylkene capsule, it can be sprinkled on food and may make it taste better. Personally, I am not a fan of raw diets, but at this point, it is most important to find an easily digestible, low fat food that Sofia is interested in eating. Prescription options like Hill's i/d are available through your vet. Otherwise boiled chicken breast, cooked white rice, plain toast, chicken broth, or fish broth are reasonable options.

I’m glad to hear you got Grace in for care so quick. It sounds like she is on the right track and recovering. The soft bowel movements may or may not be a problem. If they are soft, but formed and she doesn’t have an increased urgency to get outside to go, then it may just be the high fiber that is in some prescription diets we might give for pancreatitis. I’m not clear on which of the Hills diets she was prescribed, but the changes to her stool could simply be food related. That being said - if her stool is not formed and is more like a cow pie, or if she does have to go out frequently then she should be rechecked sooner than later. Sometimes there is a trial and error to find the “right” food for a patient, and we have to try different prescription diets to find what they do best eating. Either way, her stool should be formed, and if it continues, a visit to your veterinarian is warranted.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The soft stools are not normal. Also, the most important thing is to feed a low fat highly digestible diet. My own dog has a long history of pancreatitis so I have been through this for a long time. The best diet out there for dogs with pancreatitis is the Royal canin gastrointestinal low fat diet. I would recommend that you consider switching to a more balanced prescription diet like that one. There is no known benefit in feeding a grain free diet. Good luck and have a great day!

You could try really gradually introducing the new food, mix it with chicken and rice to see if that keeps the tummy settled and gradually increase the amonut of new food. You can try giving the probiotoc at the same time.

If the diarrhea doesn't improve in a couple of days on a probiotic I recommend that you take Nino to the Vet.
