How can I prevent my Chow Chow puppy's wet chest after drinking?

Chows have very thick fur, so they can easily get hot in very warm climates. If it's quite hot where you are now, that can cause the panting. I have a Chow myself, and I see her panting sometimes in hot weather even when she indoors in the a/c. Make sure she has a cool, dark room with a fan in it to cool her down, and that she always has access to plenty of fresh, cool water. I hope this helps.

If you are feeding him canned puppy food that has a lot more water in it than dry puppy food. If you are still nervous about the amount his is drinking add water to his canned or dry food. He is very young at 1 month and doesn't require as much water as an older puppy yet. Be careful about how much water you add to his food though, you do not wanting him getting a full belly from just water and not food. I hope this helps!

This does not sound like a breed-specific issue or a normal behavior. It sounds like Chopi is either drinking his water too quickly / too vigorously, or he is having trouble swallowing it for one reason or another. Depending on how often this is occurring, this might be something worth having checked out by you veterinarian. There are definitely structural issues in the mouth, esophagus, and upper respiratory tract that can result in difficulty swallowing. If it is a behavioral issue / OCD resulting in overly quick water consumption, there are device you can obtain that attempt to limit how quickly your dog laps up the liquid. You can also physically limit how much he drinks by simply moving the bowl away manually. I don't think this is something that you need to be running off to the vet about right away, but definitely something that is worth continuing to monitor for any worsening or changes. Older dogs can get some functional weakness around the throat, causing water to leak during swallowing even though everything looks healthy. Acupuncture and chiropractic care can help and i recommend raising her water bowl to elbow height

A cough associated with drinking can be a sign of dysfunction of the nerves that affect the larynx and the vocal cords. There are many other potential causes of a cough ranging from bronchitis to heart disease. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian for a physical exam. X-rays might be recommended as a first step.

I would recommend that the puppies be examined by a vet. The dandruff could simply be dry skin (so try not to bathe frequently), fleas, mites, skin infection, lice, ringworm, etc. depending on the cause a different treatment may be recommended. The puppies will also need to get age-appropriate vaccines, which may be able to be done within the same appointment, depending on the diagnosis.
