My pregnant dog aborted black fetuses and dark liquid, is she okay?

H there and thanks for posting. If Stella is pregnant, then she could be in stage 1 of labor which can last 6-8 hours. However, the not getting up as well as the lethargic and bleeding from the vagina is concerning if she is pregnant. This may be an indication something is wrong with her pups and the pregnancy or she may have pregnancy toxemia. If she isn't pregnant, there is another medical reason behind her symptoms that needs to be addressed by a veterinarian in person. It is hard to say what exactly is going on without examining her first. My best advice is to have her seen right away by a veterinarian or taken to an emergency veterinary clinic. This is not necessarily normal but it is also may not be a concern. To be safe I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian. They can also check her stool for parasites which could be passed on to puppies, and you can discuss a plan for monitoring her pregnancy.

Hello. While the stool is not altogether abnormal, I can see your concerns. The first thing to do is take a sample to your veterinarian for a parasite analysis. You want to make sure Soska is not harboring intestinal worms that can be transmitted to her puppies. In the meantime, switch her to a bland diet for a few days. I use 75% white rice & 25% white chicken breast. A little low fat cottage cheese is OK. I would also start her on a good probiotic like Purina's FortiFlora. This is available over the counter. Bella's puppies are beautiful! A dog's pregnancy can be between 58-68 days, so even if they came around the 60 day mark, they will be fine. As long as they are nursing and gaining weight daily, everything should be ok :-)

Poor Lily! I am really concerned that she hasn’t peed or pooped since the accident. She could have ruptured her bladder or have something preventing her from pooping. I would have your vet take a look at her especially since she is pregnant. Your vet will be able to see if her bladder is intact and hopefully see why she isn’t pooping. She may also be dehydrated and need some fluids. Your vet will also be able to do bloodwork if needed. If your vet has an ultrasound, they should be able to check on the puppies as well to ensure their heartbeats are strong since she is 4 weeks along. I hope this helps!

However, if she was expecting more puppies or you don't know the number of puppies, she will need to see her veterinarian. Hi Alan. A dog's pregnancy can last between 58-68 days. If Bella is more than 69 days pregnant, this is not ok and she has to see a vet immediately. I would take her into a vet now to get checked out.
