How does Petco ensure its online vets are highly qualified?

Usually once they are grown they no longer have outbreaks. In my experience in the areas of the skin that were badly affected and lost hair, the hair will not come back fully. I wouldn’t breed her due to the stress of breeding and this is a serious condition that I wouldn’t want to take a chance on passing on. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes I would be concerned. She may have microscopic mites (demodex) that need to be addressed. A vet will need to see her and scrape her skin to look at the mites under the microscope. If found, they can start Buzy on treatments and eventually the hair should grow back. If it isn’t mites the vet may need to do more tests to determine why she isn’t growing hair. Once a diagnosis is made the correct treatment should fix her problem. Good luck and kisses to Buzy!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Betsy! She is very cute! Hormones from pregnancy and lactation can affect the skin and hair. If the puppies are all weaned and have new homes, then I would suggest full blood work. Low thyroid and Cushing's disease can cause thin hair coats and pigment changes in the skin. Starting an Omega 3 fish oil (http://vrshealth.com/canine-products/omegadog/) won't hurt. Be sure she is on a good balanced commercial diet and if she is still nursing be sure it is puppy food. She should also be dewormed, pregnancy and nursing activates "sleeping" round worms. Parasites can cause a dull, thin hair coat. I also suggest having Betsy spayed. At 7 years old I worry about being intact impacting her health (pyometra, mammary cancer) and that is a bit old to have puppies again. I hope this helps and I wish Betsy the very best!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a possibility Colt has a skin mite called demodex (mange). These mites are microscopic and don’t cause the pet to scratch. I recommend taking him to a vet where they can scrape his skin and look for the mite with a microscope. They can also look for a secondary bacterial infection from the mite. Once they have a diagnosis they can prescribe him the correct medications to treat his skin. Good luck and kisses to Colt!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Anget! Anget should see a Veterinarian due to the severity of his skin condition. Possible causes are sarcoptic mange (contagious mite), demodectic mange (non-contagious mite), skin infection from yeast or bacteria or ring worm. Demodec is easy to treat these days with flea and tick medications like Nexgard and Bravecto. The vet will need to do a skin scrape to diagnose if he has mites and ring worm is cultured and treated with antifungal pills and topical dips. A lot of times even when they have mites they have secondary skin infections that require antibiotics. I don't think there is a a solution that will cure him with out a proper diagnosis first. It is a WELLNESS clinic, so they only see healthy pets with out any issues. I recommend seeing a Vet at a hospital or clinic for Mia's skin issues. It is possible that it is a skin infection. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! They are gorgeous! This is not expected to be due to the puppy. There is a variety of reasons that can explain alopecia or hair loss. The causes can easily be differentiated by the clinical signs associated with it and the physical exam findings. If they are only showing some hair loss without scratching or overgrooming then it could conditions such as alopecia areata that can affect cats and usually resolves on its own. If there is evidence of scratching and you start noticing some redness or irritation associated with it, then other conditions such as allergies are possible. If you notice them overgrooming in that area then it could be something like psychogenic alopecia which is more of a behavioral issue. I think that since they are not having overt clinical signs and it is mostly hair loss, I think it is likely transient and will resolve on its own. You can monitor this closely and if it does not resolve or it worsens then have them examined by your veterinarian. Good luck!
