Could an old dog bite be causing my dog's skin allergies now?

This definitely looks like dermatiits. Also it would not have resolved so quickly if it were bites. The dermatitis is likely a hypersensitivity to something in the environment. Unfortunately a lot of dogs are allergic to things like grass, pollen and molds in the grass, which can cause outbreaks of the skin in this manner. There are some options for management of environmental alleriges in dogs that you can discuss with your vet if O's skin has another outbreak. This coulid have been a bug bite that is still irritating her. She could also be having an allergic reaction to something her skin came in contact with. If she is licking constantly I would recommend taking her in to your vet for allergy medication to stop the itch. If she continues the lick it, the area will become more raw, irritated and possible infected. Best to take her in to have this treated since there are no effective allergy medications available over the counter for itching to this degree. I hope that Skye's skin improves soon. If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Your dog's skin issues are unlikely to have anything to do with your son's, but the only way to know for sure is to have your vet examine him. He may have allergic skin disease, external parasites, or bacterial or fungal infection going on. Your vet may want to do a skin scraping or skin culture or cytology to figure out what is causing the skin issue. Good luck!
