How to manage my unvaccinated puppy's wild energy indoors?

I see that Tikka is a young dog, of a very high energy breed - so it's very normal and expected that she will get wild and "bitey" on occasion :). If she has a crate that she is comfortable in, I would suggest giving her some type of special treat such as a bully stick, rawhide, or a Kong stuffed with peanut butter in her crate when she starts to get crazy - this is not meant as a punishment, but simply as a way to help her calm down and relax. Chewing is a very calming activity for dogs. Make sure that you teach her to go into her crate happily for a treat when you ask her to, so that it's easy to do this when she's overly excited. I would not recommend grabbing and pinning her, as this is likely to make her try and avoid you and may also increase her frustration when she is like this. Some dogs will even be one aggressive and start to bite with this kind of handling. It's much better to calmly redirect her to another activity in a positive way.

Hi! How exciting! And yes, they do need lot's of exercise. I would avoid places where he can encounter other dogs, especially puppies. The biggest threat is parvo for puppies, and he'll have some immunity from the 2 vaccines, but until a few days after his last vaccines, I would avoid places that other puppies have been or might be encountered. Also make sure he's on a good dewormer (check with your vet what is appropriate for where you live). Have fun with your new puppy!

Congratulations on your new baby! First, I would talk to your vet about puppy vaccinations to make sure that Reece is on schedule and protected. It is very important to get Reece well socialized with other dogs and people in a safe way. One thing that I had luck with was puppy socialization class. They are often offered at training facilities and some veterinary clinics. In order to go to these events, owners have to show proof of vaccination, so you will know that Reece is around other dogs that are properly vaccinated. Since she is so young it is difficult to tire them out. If you are able to I would take her on a long walk two to three times a day. I certainly understand and sympathize with your situation. I have a young dog. I have a few suggestions for you that have helped me. One thing that people think of first is treats that keep them busy for a longer period of time. This does seem to help. You can use long lasting treats like a Kong filled with peanut butter, yogurt, treats, etc and frozen so it takes longer for him to eat. My dog also really like Bully Sticks which I also freeze to make them last a little longer. Keep him mentally and physically busy during meal times. I love using a feeding balls like a Buster Cube or Tricky Treat ball to feed meals in. It keeps him busy for at least 5-10 minutes at each meal and requires him to work. And speaking of working. I have found that my dog is the most tired after we have done a good round of training. Even if you have done a basic obedience class, I would consider trying an advanced class, a nose work class, a tricks class, etc. And if taking a class isn't an option right now, work on training at home. When he goes on walks, make him sit at each corner before he crosses the street. It sounds simple, but additional mental stimulation can go a long way. Playing with other dogs is a great outlet for energy. If you haven't tried it yet, look into your local dog park or doggy daycare center.
