Just found a dog! How do I tell its breed and how old it is?

While it is difficult to say definitively what Leo may be, he sure is cute. He may be a mix of dachshund & chihuahua, or might even have a little corgi in him. Have him examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. He can tell you hold old Leo is, check his stool for parasites, & start him on age appropriate vaccinations. She looks like she could be 3-4 months old. Look at her teeth. At around 4 months of age she should start losing baby teeth. She may be a Malinois, but is difficult to determine by one image. A reputable breeder will provide paperwork, pedigree, vaccine history, etc. Your veterinarian should be able to make a determination of age and breed after a physical exam. She has to be examined anyway to get her vaccines.

Hi there. There is no way for us to age him without looking at his teeth. That being said, he appears to be between 6 and 8 weeks of age. You can take him to any local vet and they will age him for you. If you just got him from the side of the road he likely needs vaccinations and deworming urgently - you should have that done as soon as possible.

From the pictures, it does look like he may be a german shepherd or similar breed It is hard to estimate age from pictures, but he is clearly young (under a year). I would recommend if he was found, he be taken to a veterinary office for a check-up and to be scanned for a microchip.

Hello. If her teeth are just beginning to grow big, & based on how she looks in your pictures, I would say she is about 4-5 months old. It is very difficult to say exactly what breed she is, but I can see a little chow or spitz in her. she looks like she is going to be pretty fluffy.
