Why are my 2-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy's eyes red? Vet needed?

Poor Sasquatch (I love his name!). I see what you mean about his very swollen eyes. There could be a couple of reasons why they are swollen. He could be having an allergic reaction to something outside, he could have injured his eyes, or he may have an eye infection. Given how suddenly it came on and how swollen they are,I would give your vet a call now to see if they can get him in for an appointment today. When eye problems come on suddenly, I always advise an immediate vet visit because of the delicate nature of the eye and it's important. Just in case there is something his eyes, you can try gently flushing them with some sterile saline, but definitely get him into a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

He can have an eye infection, but he may also have gotten dust in his eyes. If he recently was around other dogs I recommend bringing him to a veterinarian since it can be pink eye. Otherwise, I recommend rinsing his eyes with saline and if the redness doesn't resolve or gets worse bring him to a veterinarian. He may need eye drops. Oh Zues is just the cutest puppy!! The appearance of his eye is very concerning, and he could have a severe eye infection, hemorrhage, glaucoma, or trauma to the eye. The eye is such an important and delicate structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Zues has to see a vet now for this so his eye can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Common causes are uveitis (inflammation with in the eye from primary eye disease or systemic disease), corneal ulcers, allergies, glaucoma or foreign material (like dust) in the eyes. If it clears up on it;s own it likely glaucoma or corneal ulcers. I think uveitis, allergies or foreign material in the eye are the most likely causes. It is very hard to make out the photo but I can see the blue, redness and discharge. You are right the dig needs to see a vet. There appears to be an infection going on and the blue colour either means oedema of the cornea which is the transparent eye layer at the front, or uveitis which is inflammation behind the cornea. I would suspect tgat the cornea may be damged which is very serious. Either way the dog needs a vet because at best this will require eye drops to heal but may need more extensive treatment. It is currently the owners responsibility so I would remind her of her obligation to keep the animal healthy and urge her to visit the vet.

You need to take Eva into the vet first thing in the morning. It’s not normal her eyes are red, and any eye problem needs to be checked out immediately. Leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Best of luck.

In some breeds the eyes can get a little red with excitement, when they are tired, etc. As long as Olaf's eyes do not seem painful: excessive blinking, holding an eye closed, excessive tearing, yellow or green discharge or rubbing them it is fine to wait until your appointment next week.
