Gentle Leader caused dog hair loss. Will it grow back? How to help?

Poor Cooper! You could certainly try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement such as Welactin to see if this helps. But, it isn't normal for it to take so long for hair to grow back, so I would be concerned that he may have a thyroid problem or some other underlying medical condition causing problems with his hair growth. When you can, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet - he/she can do some basic blood work to check his thyroid function as well as liver, kidneys, etc. If there is a problem, it's usually very treatable with medication once a diagnosis is made, and would be very helpful in getting his hair to grow back in.

Oh no, I'm sorry Hana's fur was cut so short! I apologize but I'm not sure what you mean by "patches situation." Her fur will grow back as long as it was before, it will just take a couple of months. I shave my own Chow Chow into a lion cut (she has gorgeous red fur) to keep her cooler in the summer, and her fur always grows back as before. I understand being upset, but try not to worry too much because her fur will grow back in time. You can try giving her some fish oil supplements which can help with skin health. The dosage for that is 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined for every 30 pounds of body weight. I hope this helps!

Oh no. Poor guy. It sounds like the hair follicles are in permanent resting phase after the shave. The only thing you can really try here would be Melatonin. It can take up to 3 months however, to see any growth after starting this supplement. Talk to your vet about proper dosing for Lily since we legally cannot tell you that information here, but it is worth a shot. I would also bathe LIly regularly and brush the area with a soft brush often to hopefully stimulate the hair follicles to regrow. I hope that Lily gets her beautiful coat back. Hello there. So sorry Thor is having this issue. Yes, this sounds like a reaction to the Advantix. Usually the hair will grow back but I cannot be 100% sure that will be the case. Only time will tell. If the hair is going to grow back it could take months depending on what phase of hair growth the hair was in when it fell out. If the hair follicles were damaged in any way the hair may not grow back (that would be worse case scenario). I suggest you contact the company and let them know what happened. There should be a phone number on the packaging. Often times they will cover any vet care if they deem the reaction was caused by their product so you may want to check in to that. That way you can get Thor checked out properly by your vet. I know the hair loss looks unsightly but try not to be too worried. I'm sure he will be just fine :) I hope this helps. Best wishes! Hi, there is nothing you can do to aid or speed up growth apart from making sure that you feed him an appropriate good quality diet. You can supplement his food with a omega 3-6 supplement to aid skin integrity and a healthy coat. You could give Chicago a fish oil supplement, but I would speak to your vet regarding which one would be better considering the diet he is on and his age and weight. Hope this helps !

The fur will eventually regrow. It will not be as soft as the original coat and it may grow in darker. The redness and peeling may indicate infection due to irritation or licking after the clipping. Consider an exam with your veterinarian in case Jasper needs systemic antibiotics and/or topical treatment. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking or chewing until the hair has grown in. A fish oil supplement, such as DermCaps or EicosaCaps, can be added to the diet to promote healthy skin and coat. If he spends time outdoors, consider a small tee shirt to protect his skin from sunburn.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should try food supplements containing omega 3. I can recommend Triglyceride Omega by Vetoquinol but there is a wide choice of products on the market. After 3-4 weeks of supplementation you should see improvement.
