Is Frontline Plus safe for my sensitive Italian Greyhound's skin?

Hi there. The concern with Australian Shepherds is that many dogs of this breed may carry the MDR1 gene mutation, which makes them especially sensitive to certain medications. Frontline (active ingredient fipronil) is NOT a drug that would be expected to cause any problems in these dogs, so in general it is fine to use in Aussies.

Hi and thanks for your request. The combination between Trifexis and Frontline Plus is safe and possible. Frontline plus is a fairly good repellent for ticks. Make sure you use it at the right dosage and with the right posology.

These products are generally well tolerated but any pet can have a reaction. The best person to contact regarding the ingredients is the manufacturer who produces these products. Make sure to purchase your products in-store. There have been problems with counterfeit and mislabeled products from online pharmacies. If these are products your pet has never used, calling your veterinarian for advice would be a good idea since they are most familiar with your pet. Best of luck.

If the puppy is over 8 weeks of age and you use the correct dosage for their weight, it should be fine. I would keep an eye on them until the application spot is dry just in case they are curious and try to lick.

Based on the photo you have provided, it appears that Winston has a rash / irritation on his abdomen. I would recommend using an ointment such as Sentry Wound Ointment, which can be found at PetCo and apply twice daily until resolved. If there is no improvement or it worsens, I would recommend having Winston examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If Adam seems to have skin problems secondary to food allergies it is possible that she is reacting to the flavoring in the Bravecto and Interceptor. You may want to look into using unflavored Heartgard and something like a Seresto collar (although this could cause topical skin irritation similar to the Frontline). Unfortunately there is no chemical free heartworm preventative, and most ‘natural’ options for flea prevention contain essential oils that don’t work well and can even cause harm.
