Can Frontline Plus be used for my dog's heartworm slow kill?

I would not recommend using Frontline Plus for dogs living in Florida. Frontline has been around a long time and it seems as though fleas are becoming resistant to it . I suggest you try one of the new oral flea/tick pills (Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica). You can go to any of the VETCO vaccine clinics inside Petco stores to consult with the vet and get one of these products. Take your dog with you. Also, all pets in the house should be on a monthly flea prevention.

Some veterinarians treat heart worms with a slow kill method by giving heartworm prevention monthly which will kill the adult worms over time and prevent new ones. The more common treatment is with injections to kill the worms quickly. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. Doing it with a slow kill method is much less expensive. Many of the newer flea and tick products work against Cheyletilla mites, but Frontline Plus is still one of the products that we will commonly use to treat Cheyletiella mites. Capstar can safely be used with Frontline. That said, switching to a different topical (they can become ineffective after a while of use) or addressing the house, bedding, etc for places flea eggs can sit may help reduce reinfestation in the future.

Treatment with drops which are effective against heartworm are not recommended if you are unsure of possible infection (these are generally effective against fleas and worms such as revolution, advocate or nexgard tablets). There are many flea/tick only preparations which kill and/or repel insects only and will not affect heartworm - such as advantix or frontline drops, simparica or bravecto tablets and seresto collars.

Bedbugs prefer humans, they are not really designed to crawl through fur, so your skin is a lot more attractive. But your dog or cat will do if you aren't available. Frontline may kill some but it won't treat the environment since bedbugs will hide in the crevices of your bedding and furniture where the Frontline won't go. The best solution is to have your home professionally treated. Wash and dry all fabrics and pet bedding in the hottest temps allowable. Consider sealing your mattress and pillows in specially designed bags meant for bedbugs control.
