My female dog has a hanging mass. Is it a tumor or something else?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The photo is taken very far away which makes it difficult to tell what is going on here even with zooming in a bit. This could be a tumor but it could also be a cyst or an abscess. It is best to take Cornelia to your vet so they can do an in-person examination. They will be able to advise you better as to what it may be. Something like this is extremely difficult to "diagnose" via a photo. It really needs to be seen and felt in person. Hope this helps. Poor Harley! This definitely looks like a tumor of some kind. Fortunately, since it's only attached by that narrow "base" of skin and tissue, it should be relatively easy to have it surgically removed. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam when you're able to. He/she can take a closer look at it and hopefully get her scheduled for surgery to take it off.

It is difficult to tell what is going on with Panthera based on the picture alone. The lump in the picture almost looks wet, so I would be concerned about a potential cyst or infected gland. Since she is unspayed, I also worry about potential mammary cancer, which we see more commonly in intact females. It can present as firm masses under the mammary glands. Dogs can also get benign masses of the mammary tissue as well. The best course of action would be to take her to your regular vet to have them evaluate her. She may need a fine needle aspirate of the lump. This is when we take a sample of cells from the area and look at it under the microscope to try to determine what the underlying cause is. It is no more painful than a vaccine and can give a lot of information as to if anything further needs to be done for Panthera or not.

Hi there. A close up picture (or even better several) of your dog st different angles would help us to get a better idea of what you're dealing with. While cancer has to be diagnosed in person in a clinic with several types of diagnostic testing-Lucky could just have fatty tumors which are usually benign until they grow so large they press on a nerve, etc. We would need a bit more information before we could help you more accurately. Thank you for the picture of Shiva's lump, it's very helpful! I'm wondering based on it's location if that is one of her nipples, but it's hard to tell from the picture. It may also be a benign lump. I don't know her age, but if she is an older dog, there is always a chance it could be something more serious like a malignant lump. I do think you should get it checked out by a vet to be safe. Hi. This is a very big mass. If it is firm and painful, this is concerning in an unspayed, older pet is cancer unfortunately. Besides a cancer, other possibilities include infection, cyst, lipoma, a benign mammary tumor, hernia, etc. She should be fully checked out and have the mass sampled to get an answer. The sooner the better in this case.
