Why are both my dogs vomiting and having diarrhea after I got a new dog?

An upper respiratory tract infection is usually indicated by coughing, sneezing, eye and/or nose discharge and bringing up white foamy material. The diarrhea may or may not be related. They will need to see their veterinarian if their symptoms persist. A lot of times an antibiotic will be prescribed. In the meantime, encourage them to continue drinking so that they do not become dehydrated. It is generally safe to hold a dog off of food for 18-24 hours to rest the GI tract. Hi there, it sounds like they both have a touch of gastroenteritis which could have been picked up from the water or because of the new tests upsetting their tummies. I would starve them 24 hours then feed plain chicken and rice for a day. If they are getting worse go to the vet. Try and avoid letting them drink water outside from now on.

I'm sorry Leo isn't doing well at the moment! Given that both dogs have respiratory infection, his symptoms could be due to that. Respiratory infections cause a dog to be lethargic as well as have a decrease in appetite. Vomiting can occur with a respiratory infection because a dog can cough a lot leading to that happening. Diarrhea, however, isn't typically seen with a respiratory infection, and that could be caused by intestinal worms. Puppies typically care them, and if Leo hasn't been dewormed lately, he could have gotten them from your new puppy. Finally, I'm not sure if Leo has been fully vaccinated or not, but if he hasn't, his symptoms could be caused by parvovirus or distemper. Both are highly contagious and very serious. I don't think Leo is being jealous, I think he is legitimately ill. Because I can't see him in person to rule out something serious like parvo or distemper and because I don't know his vaccination status, I do think having him seen by a vet sooner rather than later is best. I'm sorry both your puppies are sick! I would be very concerned about parvovirus, especially since they are both having diarrhea. Parvovirus is highly contagious, and deadly. Even though they were vaccinated at 7-8 weeks, this one vaccine is not enough to incur fully immunity. It take three rounds of vaccines in order to incur full immunity. Other possible reasons include a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, or intestinal worms. Because of their age, the risk of parvo, and the fact that Bentley has had bloody diarrhea for three days, they both need to see a vet immediately. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends, and I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online.
