My Yorkie has a sudden bump, but seems fine. Should I be worried?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly a lot of skin masses can look and feel the same. I always recommend anytime a new mass shows up or an old one changes that you get it looked at by a Vet. It could be a lipoma (benign fatty mass), normal anatomy, a cyst or a cancerous growth. I don't think you need to rush Bella in but watch it closely for rapid changes and have her seen at your convenience. I hope this helps and I wish Bella the best!

I would not be overly concerned about this but continue to monitor closely for any further increase in size or change in colour. Many small wounds, cysts and blocked glands will develop into small, firm noduels and most will harden and shrink down uneventfully. Any changes should be assessed by your vet however

This bump looks like it could be a hair follicle or infection, insect bite, or a skin growth. If it is not going away in 5-7 days, seems to be growing larger, or if it seems painful or itchy you should have your vet examine Yogi.

It has the appearance of a sebaceous cyst or mass, however without a physical exam this cannot be confirmed. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or discomfort associated with the lump. Place an e-collar (cone) on SP if he is able to lick or chew the area. Following up with your veterinarian next week is a good idea if you have any additional concerns.

If this little mass is not growing, changing shape or bothering your dog, then I would not worry about it. Should it start to grow, change shape or should she start to gnaw on it, have it checked out by your vet.

If you want to watch it that is fine, but if it changes or rapidly grows it should be looked at. Sadly both benign and cancerous growth can look the same. This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Charlie to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
