What causes yellow wet fur around my Shih Tzu's mouth and nose?

Those teeth could be the problem but these dogs can also have issues with the hair staying wet around the mouth or discharge from the eyes causing the odor. You may try things like facial wipes around the eyes and lips, and brushing the teeth with pet toothpaste every day. Hello. The most common cause of tear staining in dogs is blocked tear ducts. Often a course of a tetracycline medication can help resolve this. You will need to obtain this from your veterinarian. This residue can be related to excess oil secretions from irritation, allergies or a yeast infection. It can also be a combination of saliva and environmental debris. Hello, it may be associated with an aging change depending on how old your pup is. This could also happen with frequent licking and chewing as saliva has enzymes that stain fur. Other causes such as bacterial or yeast infections could also stain the fur. If Maxx is licking his paws frequently, he could have allergies with a secondary infection that may require medications to control. That discoloration is a porphyrin staining. Dogs have this stain in their saliva normally. Curly is obviously licking his paws most likely due to an underlying allergy. Seasonal and non-seasonal environmental and food allergies can cause a pet to lick or chew on the feet, knees, or other body parts. Inflammation can also be caused by items embedded in the skin, painful joints, flea bites, etc. The staining around the mouth is most likely due to a dental infection. More saliva is produced in attempt to rid the bacteria from being absorbed through the gums into the bloodstream. It is a possible sign of otitis, inflammation of the external ear canal. If you notice brown wax-like ear discharge, it could be compatible with yeast infection, very common in dogs. On other hand yellow discharge could be due to a bacterial infection. You can clean the ear canal (just the external part) with specific products (like cleanaural) but if there is an infection medications will be needed. If Chica’s skin is turning yellow this is concerning and could be jaundice. Jaundice can be seen with liver disease or blood disorders. If her fur is yellow it could be staining from feces or urine. If you think Chica may have jaundice you should see a vet right away.
