My dog won't eat, has stomach ache & watery poop while camping. Help!

Poor Bronco. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry to hear Brewster isn’t feeling well. The eggs from parasites are microscopic so it is unlikely to see with with a naked eye. Also, not all dewormer treat every parasite dogs can get. Because he has made no improvement with your treatment, I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam and further therapy. Although he is drinking water, he may not be taking in enough orally to replenish what is lost in the diarrhea, therefore causing dehydration. He will likely need radiography to find out why his stomach is distended. They can also check a stool sample for intestinal parasites. If anything they should be able to get him medications to stop the diarrhea and help him feel better. Good luck and kisses to Brewster!

I'm sorry that Jasper is uncomfortable! I'm concerned because you say that he has stomach pain and is acting restless - these can be symptoms of a life-threatening condition called bloat, or GDV (gastric dilatation and volvulus). This is a problem that can affect large breed dogs, in which the stomach becomes overly full of air and/or food and twists on itself. Symptoms normally include acting painful, restlessness, panting, unproductive attempts to vomit, and sometimes a large or bloated-looking abdomen. If this sounds like what Jasper is doing, I would recommend getting him to a vet immediately as this is a medical emergency - bloat requires emergency surgery, and is fatal within hours without treatment. If this isn't possible or you opt not go to the vet, you can try offering him some plain boiled chicken and rice or chicken-flavored baby food to help settle his stomach. There are no over-the-counter human medications that are recommended for use in dogs for this problem, so unfortunately there is nothing you can give him apart from small amounts of a bland diet to see if this helps.

However, if Buster's vomiting or diarrhea worsen, or if he becomes lethargic and stops drinking, a trip to the vet will be in order to assure that he has not become dehydrated and to get to the bottom of the problem. It sounds as Baloo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

I'm sorry to hear that Gizmo has developed diarrhea on your vacation. The stress of travel can certainly do that to a dog! As long as he is otherwise normal and an adult dog, it is ok to hold food for 24hrs. Be sure to provide plenty of water for him so that he does not become dehydrated. Resting his GI tract for a period will a lot of times resolve the issue. If he is acting ill a young puppy or that doesn't work, he will need to see a local veterinarian. Poor Murphy! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. He may be constipated due to hard, dry stool; or, he may have some type of blockage in his colon causing him to be unable to poop. Since he is also not eating or drinking, I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet today to be seen rather than attempting any kind of home remedies for this problem. The veterinarian there can do a rectal exam to help determine what the problem is, and can get him started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.
