There isn't an easy answer to your question. I would recommend that Gypsy get checked out by the vet to see what is the cause of her skin condition. Some dogs will have skin issues when they have food allergies, and they may benefit from a diet using a "novel protein" like salmon, duck, or venison. But other skin conditions (such as flea allergies, bacterial or fungal infection, or mange) won't clear up with a change in diet.

If Gypsy is being picky and holding out for tasty human foods, it may take a week or two of hard love to get her to start eating dog food. Some people will add small amount of human foods into the dog food to get their dog to eat it. Others will only offer dog food and no other foods until the dog starts to eat. Your vet can help you decide which option may be best for Gypsy.
