Poor guy. He may have gotten into something that upset his stomach. The panting can be a sign of discomfort; however if it continues for more than an hour or two, then it's best to get him seen by your vet. It is good that he had a regular bowel movement this morning. If the stools go back to being watery then I would suggest taking him to your vet for a fecal examination to check for parasites and also Giardia (often causes very watery stools). A dewormer and antibiotics may be needed to get his GI tract back to normal. In the meantime you can offer him a bland diet of boiled pain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if you can get his stomach to settle. Loose stool and lack of appetite could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Tootsie seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible for diagnostics and treatment. In the meantime, if she is not eating well, you can try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding her small amounts of the resulting chicken broth and cooked chicken once it has cooled. You can also add in plain boiled white rice. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from Tootsie to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. I would recommend feeding small bland meals frequently with an added probiotic such as fortiflora. If diarrhea is mild it is often preferred to allow it to be expelled naturally if drinking and alert. Imodium is generally used alongside other treatment or where no signs of infection are identified

Unfortunately a diagnosis can’t be made on stool color alone. Testing for intestinal parasite, liver disease, and issues with intestinal absorption would be warranted. Barley and cottage cheese don’t make up a completely balanced diet, and the lack of certain minerals in the diet can lead to stool color changes. Once your vet has a better idea of what may be going in internally, they can recommend a special diet or have you consult a nutritionist to formulate a balanced homemade diet.

In my experience, it would be fairly unusual for a glucosamine supplement to cause loose stools and gas - but I have had a few patients over the years who experienced similar problems after starting glucosamine, so it's certainly possible. If you want to find out for sure, you could simply stop giving the glucosamine for the next several days to see if the problem resolves. If not, or if the problem gets worse in the meantime, it would be best to see your vet for an exam to find out what else might be causing her GI issues.
